About Bebe Listo
About the Program
I know what it feels like to think college isn’t possible. As a low-income, first-generation student, I once believed higher education was out of reach. My parents couldn’t afford tuition, and I felt completely lost until a school counselor stepped in. With her support, I raised my GPA from a 3.5 to a 4.0, applied for scholarships, and discovered resources that changed the course of my life.
Since then, I’ve been fortunate to have mentors including physicians, scientists, and healthcare professionals who guided me through clinical experiences, shadowing opportunities, and career planning. Their support shaped who I am today: a pre-medical student, business owner, nonprofit founder, and former Director of Operations at a private healthcare practice.
Now, it’s my turn to give back.
Our Mission
Perinatal health disparities continue to affect women and families from low-income and minority communities, often because of systemic barriers, lack of representation in healthcare, and limited access to culturally competent providers. By mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals from these communities, we aim to close that gap.
Our program empowers first-generation, low-income, and minority students who might otherwise be overlooked by providing academic support, mentorship, and career guidance. In doing so, we are creating opportunities for students while also working toward a healthcare system where future providers reflect the patients they serve and understand the unique challenges families face, especially during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care.
